Scattering your loved one’s ashes is one of the most personal ways that you can honor their life. People choose scattering for any number of reasons, but it’s often tied to a desire to be put to rest somewhere meaningful. It’s a privilege to be asked to carry out scattering.

The experience can actually have a powerful healing effect. Close family can gather together to see their loved one put to rest somewhere special, or you can take comfort knowing that you’re carrying your loved one to their final resting place.

These types of scatterings can be a great way to re-live some cherished memories. Depending on where your loved one wishes to be scattered, it might be an opportunity for a road trip. You could take the time to stop at some memorable destinations along the way. Eat at your loved one’s favorite diner or spend the night at their campground of choice. Retrace the steps of vacations or trips you’ve taken with them. The memories will be comforting.

Surprisingly, a car company did a fantastic job capturing the sentiment.

If a road trip isn’t part of the plan, there’s always the option to do a scattering at sea. We can help with this if it’s something that interests you. There are some regulations that need to be followed, but it’s still very much a viable option.

If you do want to scatter your loved one’s ashes, it’s important for you to let us know. There’s a different type of cremation container called a scattering tube that’s designed especially to make scattering easier. Traditional cremation urns aren’t always designed to be reopened, so it’s important to know up front if scattering is in the cards.

Aside from traditional scattering options, there’s an option to plant a memorial tree with your loved one’s cremains. While it’s not technically considered scattering, it’s similar in the way that there’s often a symbolic location involved.

It can also be comforting to know that death will help create new life. This memorial tree can be planted any number of places.

Regardless of how or where your loved one wishes to be scattered, it is a relief to feel like you’re honoring their wishes. You can think of it as one final gesture of kindness you’re extending to your loved one.

After all, if you’re the one being asked to scatter their ashes, you must hold a pretty special place in their heart.
