Obituary of Dante LoPresti

Dante LoPresti passed away November 7, 2020 at the age of 70. Dante was born in 1950 in Jamestown, New York. His family moved to Niagara Falls, New York in 1961 where he attended local schools and graduated from Lasalle High School in 1968. Soon after graduating, he started working for the Carborundum Company in Niagara Falls in their Globar Division where he worked until his retirement. He served in the Vietnam War in 1970 as a member of the US Army. In 1977, Dante moved his family to Grand Island, New York where he lived until his death. Dante’s sense of humor was such a big part of who he was, and those closest to him will carry in their memories the joy and laughter he gave so generously to those he loved. His personality was one-of-a-kind, and pieces of that personality live on in his loving daughter and granddaughter. He loved nature and animals, and typically had an assortment of creatures in his home with him—dogs, turtles, and birds. Living near the Niagara River brought Dante great joy, whether he was boating, spending time with friends, or just sitting and enjoying the fresh air. Dante was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Carmella (Palumbo) LoPresti, and his younger brothers, Gene and David LoPresti. He is survived by his daughter, Donna (Russell) Wegfehrt, his granddaughter, Ella Wegfehrt, his brother Tancred "Tanny" (Theresa) LoPresti, his sister Charlene (Allen) Doolittle, his sister-in-law Joan LoPresti and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind a wonderful group of friends, so many of whom were so thoughtful and kind to his family in his final days and since his passing. We can’t thank you all enough. Please send donations to the DeGlopper Memorial Expansion Fund (2121 Grand Island Blvd., Grand Island, NY 14072 or at www.DeglopperMemorial.org) to help honor Grand Island veterans like Dante.
